Find your Beauty within with Happy Skin

Posted on July 26, 2022 by Nini Dizon

Happy lips are equal to overall girl confidence! Treat your lips to a beauty product that doesn’t only want you to look at your prettiest but also cares for you. Today I’m going to tell you about my experience with homegrown Filipino beauty brand Happy Skin and how they are true to their promise of offering world-class quality makeup that is kind to your skin.

First impressions last

I’ve heard about Happy Skin for a long time now and just like how I often visit other makeup brands in the mall I would also often go to their stores and test their products on my skin. If you’ve been following my blogs, you would know that I have sensitive skin so I am very careful when it comes to buying beauty products and I guess that’s why I’m attracted to Happy Skin’s brand promise of caring for your skin no matter what skin type you have. On their website, it says that their products are made in the world’s beauty capitals Korea, Japan & Taiwan which leads me to have high expectations of the brand. I do a lot of research comparing different skin care products and makeup brands to find which one is the best choice for me.

I remember testing out their blush-on one time directly on my cheeks to know if I would get any sort of irritation. I wore it all throughout the day and I’m glad to know that I never scratched my cheeks due to any irritation after a long wear, which fascinated me. That memory alone stayed with me and I made sure that I’ll purchase their products soon when I get the chance. With the pandemic taking place for almost two years now I didn’t have the chance to buy and explore makeup then one day as I was fixing my cosmetics bag, I realized that I had a good problem. I ran out of lipstick and needed to buy a new one. (yes, I put lipstick on even if I work from home, more on this later). A part of me was excited because I have a good reason to check out and buy makeup. Ha ha.

My lip journey

There were so many brands in mind that I want to try and buy for a new lipstick but I first went to a Happy Skin store. I love that their store has an inviting ambiance intricately matched with its dainty blue and pink branding colors. I went to their Alabang Town Center branch and I was so happy to look at so many makeups! It’s like heaven for girls like me who love makeup and skincare. It’s like I’m in a toy store looking for which toy I can buy and bring home. I scanned through all the options that I saw for the lipsticks and there are so many good choices!

Ever since, I only buy matte lipstick because I don’t want the sticky and shiny look of lip glosses and because I don’t want my lips to look bigger. I’ve always been traditional. Buying only matte lipsticks for the longest time. I also don’t like the conscious feeling where I would feel my lips all the time only for me to notice when my face is feeling tired projecting all the way. I guess the only thing is that with matte lipsticks I still need to prep up my lips by putting on some lip balm underneath before applying the matte lipstick for a perfect and pretty finish. What usually happens is that if I apply lipstick first it ends up leaving my lips dry and chapped. So, to prepare my lips for extra color I make sure to blend in some lip balm first to get my lips ready.

I occasionally have chapped lips for different reasons one could be because of the weather, two I guess there are times that I don’t drink enough water, and three I guess that’s how I really am. Occasionally I also use a lip brush to help me out in perfecting the shape of the lipstick on my lips, blending the lip balm and lipstick, and removing excess skin that is not part of the show. One thing that I also don’t want is to emphasize the lines on my lips. You see my lips have a lot of lines so putting in lipstick first is a big no-no because it makes my lips look dry and it emphasizes the lines even more. One good practice that I really do is putting on some lip balm which somehow relaxes and smoothens the skin on my lips making the lines disappear then applying lipstick right after.

But while I was at the store, I decided to reframe my mindset and started to explore and be open to new lip products. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone somehow and try something else. I started to test Happy Skin’s lip mallow on the top of my hand to check which color matches my lips. I somehow felt intrigued with this lip mallow and assessed it overall. I read the label of the lip mallow box. It says plush matte lip mousse. Okay, so that’s interesting. A matte lip mousse on a lip gloss container. That’s how I interpreted it. The staff assisted me with the color island girl because it suits my skin color. I always noticed that orangy lip colors match my skin. It’s a bonus for me to know that it has SPF 15.

Moment of truth

I finally bought Happy Skin’s cute lip mallow and I’ve been enjoying it since then! I like how it easily adds color to my lips with just a few dots or through gentle glides. It’s economical to use making it my best friend inside my bag for a long time. I love its color that I feel radiates on my face well making me look and feel more pretty inside and out. One interesting thing that I also learned about this product is that it can also be used on the cheeks as a blush on as well! Just like what I said it’s economical to use so when I apply some of my cheeks I just get a little amount on the tip most part of the applicator, blend it using my fingers and apply it on my cheeks. It actually scatters and provides a lot of color on the cheeks which also I must say is skin friendly. It’s, of course, a bit sticky in the beginning as you apply it on the cheeks but as it dries up it leaves a light powder-like finish. I have a small face so I don’t apply a lot of blush on otherwise I might look like a clown.

(Happy Skin on my lips and cheeks!)

I’m thankful that Happy Skin’s lip mallow allows me to occasionally skip gliding on some lip balm. I can easily and confidently apply some on my lips without the thought that it may dry the skin on my lips or that I would look horrible with dry and chapped lips afterward. The only downside that I see with this product is that it easily wears off after you eat a heavy meal. It will all spread out on the sides of your lips. Most women want a lipstick that lasts. However, I figured that there could be a solution to this. I tried applying a thicker layer one time and tested if it will last. I checked my face in the mirror after eating a meal and drinking water and it only smudged a little but it still looked fine on my lips.

I guess this type of lip product allows you to experiment with it more. I tried what I once saw on a Korean makeup video the way they apply lipsticks starts from the inner and middle part of the mouth going towards the outer. Which makes their lips look smaller and more natural. Personally for me, it even looks more kissable. Otherwise, if you’re the type who wants to use Happy Skin’s lip mallow to achieve fuller lips, I tried it once based on a Facebook video reel that I accidentally watched. It worked like magic and makes you achieve fuller lips.

When I also went to Happy Skin I was with my mother then and I also bought her, her own Happy Skin lip mallow. The color that she bought is spicy. One time when we were at home, I got curious about its color and borrowed it from my mother just to see the difference between the two colors. I’m glad that it also matches my skin color! What I also noticed about this lip mousse is the scent. It smells like cupcakes! It’s funny that I only knew as I write this blog that one of its ingredients that is written on the label is marshmallow extract which maybe answers that fresh smell that I thought was cupcakes. That sweet smell reminds me of the first time I was given a toy makeup when I was a little girl. I like the modern and upbeat look of their store and products. I like the colorful friendly vibes that make every girl feel like they are ready for a princess-like makeover. I like that Happy Skin can do all this for you. By the way, each Happy Skin lip mallow costs Php 549.

The impact of makeup in our changing world

As I mentioned earlier, I ran out of lipstick during the pandemic because I used it even if I was just at home. The pandemic allowed us to think and reflect upon so many things and one of the things that I was able to notice was my resources that are available inside the house. Like tumblers that I never had the chance to use because I was so busy with the outside world now when I just stayed at home, I learned to drink more water and maximize every material thing that’s around me. One of these is makeup. It doesn’t mean when you are just inside your home is that you shouldn’t dress up and put on some makeup anymore. The pandemic has taught us the words, self-care, eating healthy, mental health, and so on. And makeup has an active role in it. Whatever season you are in as a woman this pandemic has given us much more reasons to put on makeup, especially lipsticks.

For example, when you work from home you can feel confident any time you face your teammates on a video call. Your physical appearance affects your performance at work. That’s what I learned. Of course, we all want to feel comfortable inside our homes wearing our pajamas but putting on a little tint on the lips and cheeks doesn’t hurt right? It helps boost the confidence that you already have. It uplifts your spirit. It makes you feel like a powerful woman in control of your daily living. And one more thing you bought it not to waste it up to its expiry date, right? You wear makeup not to impress others you wear it to feel good about yourself.

Happy Skin is not just makeup

Now two years have passed and most of us are probably going back to their offices. Whether you are home or at your office, Happy Skin can be your constant companion when it comes to adding beauty to your existing beauty. With all that said I just admire how Happy Skin has kept their brand promise true to their customers like me all throughout the years. The brand has been able to occupy a space in my mind that speaks of its mission of skin-caring products that are made for all skin types and its advocacy of producing cruelty-free makeup.
