Are you tired of browsing the same food online for delivery? It seems like you’ve tried and tasted almost everything delivered to your doorstep but you’re looking for something unique and new that will satisfy your taste buds. I’m excited to share with you that I’ve recently discovered that there is a new and authentic Israeli food choice available for those of you who live in the South just like me. Falafel Yo! recently opened their branch in Metro Gaisano Supermarket Basement 1, Metro Supermarket, Alabang Town Center. I’m glad to have the opportunity to taste this healthy and guilt-free snack. So, let’s jump to it!
One day my brother came home from work and was excited to share that he bought Falafel. It so happens that he passed by it on his way home and decided to buy some for take-out. My family and I were so excited because we were eager to taste something new because of the limited food delivery options that happened ever since the pandemic started. When I saw my brother pull it out from the paper bags I instantly saw the word “Sababa” on the wrapping and quickly said, “Oh, it says Sababa!” My brother asked what it meant and I said that it has different meanings. It means, great, cool, alright, no problem. It’s the only word that my teammates and I understood from my previous Israeli boss that’s why I’m so familiar with it. I worked with different Israeli startups for the past six years and currently working with one now that’s why I was so thrilled when I read the Sababa word. When I got hold of it, it looked new to my eyes. It looked like a mouthwatering presentation of a gigantic burger at first because it was stuffed with falafel balls that looked like meat and so many ingredients that I could not recognize what they were. But falafel is not a burger; I’ll tell you more about it as we go along. The first thing that came to mind while I was holding and staring at the overloaded stuffed pita bread was, do I eat the green chilli? Normally when I eat green chilli’s I’m used to removing the seeds first before eating it. After a few seconds, I finally decided to eat the green chili together with the seeds and it turns out that I made the right decision! If I removed the green chilli I would’ve missed all the fun that it could’ve added to its taste. It added that spicy kick which made my meal overall satisfying! Falafels are Israeli street foods that contain fried eggplants, fries, falafel balls, tahini, onion sumac, hummus, white cabbage, and chopped salad. At first, I wasn’t able to recognize that it’s filled with vegetables but as I went on munching my falafel on our dining table I was able to identify its ingredients. I love veggies so it tasted like heaven to me. Let me tell you something quickly though about a weird thing about me when it comes to some specific vegetables. I don’t eat squash and potatoes when they are whole, like for example when it’s added in a viand but when they are crushed or processed like for example into a squash soup, mashed potato or fries I eat them. Weird right?

So, I mentioned earlier about the falafel balls where I thought they were made of meat but to my surprise they are made of chickpeas! Amazing! Now just like what I said about squash and potatoes, the same goes for chickpeas. I only eat a few whole chickpeas on any viand. At first, I didn’t know that what I was eating was chickpeas when I was eating the falafel. I tried to taste what the deep-fried falafel balls were made of then when I learned that it was ground chickpeas I just couldn’t believe it because it tasted so good. I couldn’t even tell that it was chickpeas. I guess grounding it revealed a more flavorful taste. As I ate my falafel I like that it’s a bit smoky in taste which reminds me that I’m eating a Mediterranean delicacy. It perfectly comes with a Tahini and Amba Sauce that you can drizzle all over your Falafel for a stronger and smoother blended taste on every bite. I really like the spice and flavorings. I savored every bite because it’s a healthy meal! Once you get to taste it you will end up wanting more. It’s like love at first taste. With each bite, I must say that even if I was just sitting at our dining table it felt like I was taken to the streets of Israel where it’s like I was magically transported there eating authentic falafel. I guess they really did a good job in making the authentic taste and experience happen to their Filipino customers to make them feel like they are in Israel. With the ongoing pandemic, you can visit Israel with just the taste of their food. Also, the price is not bad. Their falafel costs 199 pesos using Classic Pita bread and 224 pesos for Whole Pita bread. Falafel Yo! has a whole lot more Israeli food choices in their menu, the Falafel that I’ve tasted is just one. Go on and check out their website or Facebook page to find out more about their menu. It’s a perfect choice for vegetarians or for those who want to change their diet and eat healthy meals. It could also be a creative way for parents to teach their kids to eat veggies in a fun way!
